Five For Friday with a Confession!

Here is my five for Friday!

1. I have been back at creating teaching stuff!  Back in August I made raffle tickets to use as part of my reward system.  I decided to post them to my TPT store as a FREEBIE.  Grab them here!

2. I created a new sight word game to use with my kindergarten groups!  I know they will love it!  It is available at my TPT store!  Click here!

3. Read Across America is coming up!  My school is having students participate in activities each day.  I was asked to created a poster to hang up in the hallways!  This is what I came up with!  What will your school be doing?

4. I have started a new hobby!  My sister-in-law gave me a beading set for Christmas and I. AM. ADDICTED!  This week I had some time to make yet another jewelry set! 

5. Confession Time!  I have been watching my diet for about seven months now (with the exception of a couple of weeks at Christmas.  I picked up a bag of M&M's last weekend...and they are gone.  I went to the store today for another bag...and ended up with two bags since they only cost $1.20 each for 12.6 oz bag!!

It's Friday...Linky!

I am so glad today is Friday!  This has been a BUSY week and the next few weeks are going to be just as busy!  Today I am linking up with Doodle Bugs for Five for Friday!

 

Here is what has been happening in my world this week! 

Our seeds that we planted have sprouted!  It is truly a miracle!  This is half of my classes pots and the students are so excited to see the growth each day.  We are keeping a short journal of the growth.

 

I completed my Fun With Frog Pack this week!  I love making my own center activities and finally had some time to work on another pack.  The pack was so much fun to make and the students loved the activities. .  The students completed this activity of ordering the sentence and then recording it. 

We also played a fun math game.  For this game students rolled the fly cube and counted how many flys there were.  Then they rolled the frog cube to see how many flies the frog ate.  We then subtracted to find the answer.  Students recorded the subtraction sentences on a recording sheet.

If you don't have the cubes, I would HIGHLY recommend them.  They are so easy to switch out and make it so you can play so many fun games!  I use them for sight word games, addition, subtraction, and alphabet games!  I also love that they are soft so rolling them makes no noise on a table!  Click on the picture below to purchase from Carson Dellosa.

Today my kindergarten class did not have school.  Next years kindergarteners had the opportunity to come see the school and do some fun activities.  We take them on a bus ride around the neighborhood, read a Gingerbread Man story, have them color and cut out a gingerbread man(YIKES!  Those scissor skills were a bit scary!) and of course have gingerbread cookies and milk! 

I have also been working on printing out pages for memory books.  During the school year we take pictures of the students doing class activities and events (sitting with Santa, meeting a firefighter, dressed as pilgrims, etc.).  We then put the pages together for the students to have as a keepsake from kindergarten.  They are SOOOOOOOO much work!  I always put it off until the last minute to get them all put together.  This is my project for the weekend!  UGH!  I really wish I had a magic wand and they would magically be done!

Frog Freebies!

My class is learning about life cycles!  We started with the life cycle of a plant and are watching our little sprouts grow!  Hopefully they will stay alive and the kiddos can take them home for their moms for Mother's Day next week!  We are now learning about frogs!  Here are two freebies for you that I am using in my class this week!

The first activity is a Fr and Fl Blends Sort Worksheet.  Students will sort the eight pictures by the beginning blend sound.

I actually have some foam lily pads for the students to lay out like a number line on the floor.  That way they can physically act out the addition equations to find the sum!  It's May and their energy level is HIGH!  I've got to get that energy out!

St. Patrick's Day Is Coming!

St. Patrick's Day was never that big of a deal to me until 2009!  March 17th, 2009 I gave birth to my 10  lb 6 oz baby boy!    Now each year I look forward to this special day!  I have made a fun unit to help my kinders learn and try to maintain their fading attention span as spring break approaches...and I have even included a freebie!  Here are some of the activities included in the unit:

Rainbow Rhyming: Working on rhyming words!  This activity also includes a recording sheet that has students sounding out the CVC words!

Follow the Rainbow Addition: Works on basic addition with sums 0 to 5.  Students match the pot of gold to the rainbow.  This activity also includes a cut and paste worksheet.

Solid Gold Syllables: Students sort 1, 2 and 3 syllable words

Five For Friday

Here are five random things from my week:

We ended up with a total of four snow days!!  (Two the end of last week and two the beginning of this week!  A surprise SIX day weekend!)  This is my three year old trying to walk in the snow!

I made this yummo cake on one of my days off!  The sad part is that having that extra time off I also had more time to eat it!

Today we celebrated Read Across America! My kinders made their own striped hats and had their pictures taken with this fun guy!  Of course he was the talk of the day!  You can also see my rocking chair that I talked about in a previous post.

My oldest son worked on addition with the new addition cards I made him.  He used little hockey pucks (Smarties) as his manipulative.  I guess we should have talked about subtraction as he ate them all gone!  You can get the addition cards here!

My school had a door decorating contest for Read Across America!  All of the doors in the building turned out so cute!  My class did the book I Can Read With My Eyes Shut.  Each student made themselves with their eyes shut and holding a book.  Here is a close up of a couple of them!

Another Snow Day!! Wowza!

A couple of weeks ago I was commenting that I just wanted ONE snow day!  God does answer prayers...BIG TIME!  Tomorrow will be snow day number THREE!!

Listen: I commented about this in a previous post.  I use two different sayings "Stop, Freeze, Eyes and Ears on Me, Please." and "1,2,3 Eyes on Me"  It gets the attention of the students and they immediately know that I have something to say.  Other times I will compliment a student that is listening and it is like a ripple effect.  Others start doing the same hoping that I will say their name next!  Gotta love how Kindergarteners want to please!

Love: Besides all these snow days?  With time off also comes movies!  I have been pulling out some of my favorites!  Have you watched Safe Haven yet?  I had forced my husband to go see it with me last weekend!  I LOVED it!  I want to go see it again!  I have to admit, I was a bit confused at first and wasn't connecting with the main character....but about halfway into the film I figured it out!  

  





Learn: As a new blogger, I want to learn more about getting my blog just the way I want it!  I have learned so much already but the more blogs I look at the more ideas I get!  My school has also been gradually working our way through the CHAMPS Classroom Management book by Randy Sprick.  It has some great ideas and each time we cover a chapter it gets me motivated to put on my super teacher cape and conquer the world!

My First Linky!

I am joining in my first linky!  I am not exactly sure what I am doing but I am so excited to figure this all out!  Tunstall's Teaching Tidbits is hosting a Hall Pass Linky! 

                          
So here I go!
Product: My favorite product that I have made is my Dental Health Unit!  I had so much fun teaching this unit!  My students loved the Uh-Oh! Cavity game so much, they even asked to play it during recess! 

I am also excited about my Sentence Scramble Pack!  I made a Sentence Scramble Freebie and it seemed to be doing really well, so I made a whole pack! Check it out!

Area: My favorite area in my classroom is my carpet area!  It is the place where my class gathers for calendar time, stories and working on the Promethean board!  I also love my rocking chair.  Last year my rocking chair was so uncomfy, but this year my mom made me some comfy cushions for it and it is perfect!  I wish I had a picture of it, but since I am snowed in on this snow day I will have to post a picture of the rocking chair later!  Here is a pic of my carpet...it's the best I have for now!



Signal: The signal I use the most is "Stop, Freeze, Eyes and Ears on me, Please!"  My room becomes very quiet when they hear this signal.  This way I can let them know of any changes or announcements that I may have.  I also use "1,2,3 Eyes on Me".  Though these aren't the most original or clever solutions, they work for me! 

Sanity: I love the days that I have a few extra minutes to grab a sweet tea on my way to work.  Sweet tea gives me the boost of sugar that I need to get my energy going!  Also, whenever I am having one of "those" days the easiest way for me to catch a breath is to throw in a book on CD!  I have a shelf of them in my room and I can just grab one off and it gives me a couple of minutes to regroup while the kiddos are engaged!  Youtube videos of fun songs (Harry's Kindergarten has some of my favorites!) also give me a minute to get that extra breath in!
